TPC Wisconsin Cherokee Lounge

Project Scope: Clubhouse renovation
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Architect: Architectural Design Consultants, Inc.
Interior Designer: Silver Leaf Interiors

The 60-year-old Cherokee Country Club is being transformed into TPC Wisconsin, the first PGA Tournament Players Club course in Wisconsin. While the physical course is undergoing a multimillion-dollar facelift, Phase I of the clubhouse upgrade, which included the renovation of the main banquet hall, Cherokee Lounge bar, and the north wing, was completed by Friede & Associates. The country club is built on the edge of the sprawling 5,000-acre Cherokee Marsh in Madison. In addition to the golf course, the club includes both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and many other amenities for its members.

The owner worked with Silver Leaf Interiors of Madison to design the lounge and bar, which will be a significant source of revenue for the owner as they return to the wedding venue marketplace. Silver Leaf was well known to the Cherokee ownership as they had worked on many residential condominium build-outs over the years at Cherokee and had a sense of both the owner's taste and the flexibility to work with the Friede team to deliver the project on an expedited schedule.

During construction, the Friede team designed a mezzanine for the lounge bar to meet the designer's needs. Some cross bracing for the roof also had to be replaced to provide structural support. The 2,160-square-foot project began in February 2022 and was completed in May 2022, just in time for the first of many scheduled wedding receptions to be held starting in June. The renovation was truly a design-build project and occasionally bordered on a "build-design" process with the Friede team adjusting plans based on existing conditions. All parties worked together to create new designs and plans and quickly sought material and equipment bids to fit the client’s timeframe.
